Have you ever wanted to trek to the highest point in Malaysia or come face to face with an Orang-utan? Well now you can! For 2008 we have a brand new destination, Malaysian Borneo, and we are very excited about adding Borneo to our expedition line up.
Malaysia is situated in central South-East Asia and consists of Peninsular Malaysia and the states of Sabah and Sarawak on the north coast of Borneo. Borneo is the third largest Island in the world and is a land of steamy rainforests, smouldering volcanoes, soaring peaks, glistening beaches, lost tribes and amazing wildlife.
Our expeditions to Borneo are based in Sabah in the north and can comprise of a number of different activities. Climbing Mt Kinabalu to its summit at 4095m is often a must for visiting groups, with some stunning views from the top and one of the richest collections of plant life found anywhere in the world. There are environmental or community projects to take part in from boating through the mangroves counting Proboscis monkeys to helping a local community with building and construction work. One of the highlights may be a visit to Sepilok Orang-utan sanctuary, the world's largest and oldest rehabilitation centre for these magnificent animals. There is also time to visit the local towns and markets for some shopping and time to kick back and relax on one of the desert islands just off the coast where there is some pretty amazing snorkelling.
